Each advertising frame is sent at a set interval on the selected channels (three by default). Fewer channels and a longer interval reduce battery consumption but make the device slower to discover and connect to. Power consumption does not drop in direct proportion to the interval, because the device also uses energy for other tasks – choose the configuration to suit the application.
RSSI fluctuations are normal – they are caused by obstacles, reflections and antenna orientation. Use hysteresis for presence detection: a separate threshold for entering range (e.g. -80 dBm) and a lower one for leaving it (e.g. -85 dBm). The entry threshold must be higher than the exit threshold.
In most cases the system HTML pages are damaged. Open http://<device-IP-address>/flash.cgi in your browser – a page for re-uploading the system pages will appear and lets you restore the device.
The advertising frame format is described in the device manuals available on the product pages. Users have also published decoding libraries, e.g. h5.bluetooth.hci.inode (Node.js).
